In a proud moment for Uganda, Dr. Christopher Ntege, the Chief Quality Control Officer at National Medical Stores (NMS) and Captain of the Uganda National Scrabble team, was inducted into the PANASA wall of fame for his invaluable contributions to the game of Scrabble in Uganda during the Africa Scrabble Championship held from 23rd to 27th October 2024, in Kigali, Rwanda.
Dr. Ntege’s involvement with Scrabble began more than 20 years ago as a personal passion but quickly evolved into a mission to promote the game as a toolfor educational growth, particularly among Ugandan youth. Some of Dr. Ntege’s contributions to the growth of the scrabble game in Uganda include;
- Financing youth activities and sponsoring youth to participate in international tournaments.
- Meeting the obligations of the scrabble Association of Uganda at international events
- Representing the country in World Championships eg London 2005, Mumbai 2007 and Las Vegas 2023.
- He has greatly contributed to the sustenance of the game in Uganda growing the club from 40 players in 2003 to over 1000 players today.
Through his leadership, Dr. Ntege helped establish local Scrabble clubs, organized national and regional tournaments, and launched training programs for young players. His efforts have transformed the Scrabble landscape in Uganda, enabling local players to compete on both national and regional stages and bringing the country to the forefront of the African Scrabble community.
Dr. Ntege’s recognition not only highlights his personal dedication to the game but also shines a spotlight on Uganda’s growing influence within Africa’s Scrabble scene. His leadership serves as a beacon, and he has inspired others to embrace the game proving that even beyond his responsibilities as the Chief Quality Control officer at NMS, he is making an impact on the next generation of scrabble players and putting Uganda on the Continental stage.
