CLARIFICATION ON LEAKED INTERNAL AUDITOR GENERAL DRAFT REPORT
National Medical Stores would like to inform its esteemed Customers, Stakeholders and the General Public that the quoted prices in the “leaked Internal Auditor General Draft report” about the alleged inflated prices for cancer medicines that aired on NTV on 14th September 2016 was full of inaccuracies and falsehoods. The challenge is that, the prices compared are of the same item but different quality standards.
National Medical Stores had contracts of cheaper but good quality cancer medicines, however, these medicines were not US-FDA approved and were consistently rejected by Uganda Cancer Institute. NMS resorted to procuring these expensive US-FDA approved brands.
It is not true that NMS inflated prices for Cancer Institute medicines as was portrayed in the said leaked draft Internal Auditor General’s Report.
Please download here the PDF version of this statement that contains prices for some of the US-FDA approved items as supplied by NMS compared to the prices for the non US-FDA approved items as indicated in the leaked draft report.
NMS is committed to delivering on its mandate of delivering essential medicines and medical supplies timely and efficiently to all public health facilities in Uganda.
We strongly detest the unprofessional conduct of the office of the Internal Auditor General in leaking inaccurate information aimed at tarnishing the image of NMS
