National Medical Stores

A center of Excellence

National Medical Stores stands as a true centre of excellence in healthcare logistics and medicine management. Our modern facilities combine cutting-edge infrastructure with a holistic approach to staff well-being, setting new standards for operational efficiency and innovation.

At our Kajjansi complex, we house advanced cold-chain storage, drive-in freezers, and an oxygen production plant, ensuring essential medicines and vaccines reach every corner of Uganda safely and reliably. The facility also features employee-focused amenities such as a gym, daycare and breastfeeding centre, and a SACCO, reflecting our commitment to a supportive and productive work environment.

Our approach goes beyond internal excellence. Institutions from across Uganda and the region visit to benchmark against our operations, learn from our systems, and adopt best practices. In this way, National Medical Stores is not only delivering health supplies but also shaping the future of public health logistics.

A Home Away from Home
for NMS Little Heroes

National Medical Stores (NMS) as a centre of excellence looks beyond medicines and logistics, and focuses on the well-being of its staff who make the institution strong. As one of Uganda’s leading employers, NMS, guided by its core value of innovation, established a workplace crèche for babies aged 3–36 months in compliance with the provisions of the Employment Act 2006.

The Uganda labour provisions recommend organisations to complement the protections provided under by the employment Act, by supporting mothers during the back to work transition after maternity leave. Reflecting on the important care needs during the early months after birth, the NMS crèche supports mothers balance their professional responsibilities with the care of their young children, while also easing the transition back into the workplace after maternity leave.

This forward-thinking initiative demonstrates the organisation’s commitment to employee welfare and work-life balance enabling nursing mothers to transition back to work with confidence while ensuring their children receive quality care in a safe and nurturing environment. The creche has become more than just a child care facility — it is a community where parents feel supported, children are cared for in a loving environment and staff can focus on their work with greater peace of mind.

All prospective female staff members with young children are encouraged to register with the centre and experience the benefits of this thoughtful initiative. This commitment reflects our belief that when we care for our people, we strengthen our ability to deliver on our mandate and improve the health and well-being of the nation

Together, let’s create a safe, healthy and nurturing workplace.
