The NMS Staff SACCO Limited held its First Special General Meeting on Friday, 2nd October 2026, bringing together members to discuss the SACCO’s operations, review key issues and explore ways to strengthen its services.
The meeting provided a platform for members to share views, raise concerns and contribute ideas aimed at improving the SACCO’s management, promoting financial growth and enhancing member participation.
Members were also implored to embrace a strong savings culture, particularly by increasing their shareholding, to strengthen the SACCO’s financial base, which would enable the institution to grow its capital and build the capacity to extend affordable loans to members at lower interest rates.
Speaking to members, a representative from Microfinance Support Centre emphasised the importance of responsible borrowing, cautioning against taking new loans to repay existing ones, as this can create a cycle of debt.
“I have seen people who borrow from one institution and then go to another to borrow money to repay the first loan. This creates a cycle of debt that can become difficult to manage. Members should borrow within their means, have a clear purpose for the money and ensure they can comfortably meet their repayment obligations,” she advised.
The meeting reaffirmed the importance of collective responsibility in building a strong and sustainable SACCO. Through regular savings, increased shareholding and responsible borrowing, members can contribute to growing an institution that supports their financial wellbeing and provides access to affordable credit when needed.
