NMS recognizes that reliable delivery of essential medicines and health supplies is only possible through strong partnerships across the health system. We actively collaborate with government bodies, development partners, district authorities, and local stakeholders to strengthen the national supply chain and ensure equitable access to healthcare resources.
Collaboration at National Level
At the national level, NMS works closely with the Ministry of Health (MOH), National Drug Authority (NDA), and other regulatory bodies to align supply chain operations with policy, standards, and national health priorities. These partnerships ensure:
- Adherence to quality standards for all medicines and health products.
- Coordination with government programs to support new initiatives, policies, and emergency responses.
- Transparency and accountability in procurement, distribution, and reporting.
We also engage with development partners, multilateral agencies, and global health initiatives to mobilize resources, share expertise, and implement best practices in supply chain management.
Subnational Engagements
At the district and health facility level, NMS partners with District Health Offices (DHOs), regional referral hospitals, and community-based stakeholders to ensure last-mile delivery of medicines and supplies. These engagements include:
- Joint planning and coordination of delivery schedules.
- Support to district leaders in monitoring medicine availability and preventing stock-outs.
- Capacity-building sessions with facility managers and supply chain staff to strengthen order processing, storage, and accountability practices.
Advocacy & Policy Support
Through our active engagement in national forums and technical working groups, NMS contributes to shaping health supply chain policies that are evidence-based and sustainable. Our role includes:
- Advocating for efficient funding and resource allocation for the public health supply chain.
- Supporting policies that prioritize equitable distribution of medicines, especially for underserved areas.
- Promoting local pharmaceutical manufacturing and BUBU (Buy Uganda Build Uganda) initiatives to strengthen national resilience.
Building Trust Through Engagement
These partnerships and engagements have enabled NMS to:
- Respond more effectively to emergencies and disease outbreaks.
- Ensure a transparent procurement process trusted by suppliers and development partners.
- Maintain close working relationships with health facilities, ensuring services meet real-world needs.
Through collaboration at every level—national, subnational, and community—NMS strengthens Uganda’s capacity to deliver safe, effective, and reliable health supplies across the country.
