National Medical Stores

LLIN Distribution Project

The Government of Uganda, with its development partners (Global Fund) through the Ministry of Health National Malaria Control Program announced plans to  commence the second phase of the Long Lasting Insecticidal Mosquito Nets campaign in May 2023, after running a highly successful campaign in 2021 which saw more than 40 million Ugandans receive over 22 million LLINs to achieve universal coverage.  NMS has completed the 2023 LLINs distribution campaign in which 28.2 million mosquito nets were distributed to 11,070 parishes in 136 districts of Uganda between 0ctober 2022 to December 2023.

The New Kajjansi Warehouse

Over the past few years there have been rapid increases in the volumes of medicines received and demanded by Health facilities across the country and it was against this background that MoH and NMS sought to expand storage capacity at the central level to manage supply chain demands.

National Medical Stores under took construction works of a modern pharmaceutical warehouse and office complex at Kajjansi site and now in final stages of completion. The new warehouse project in Kajjansi when completed will improve the storage capacity with additional 30,000 pallet locations of warehouse space, which is almost three times the current capacity at Entebbe NMS headquarters and sufficient office space for more than 200 NMS staff.

NMS+ Enterprise Resource Planning

As a way to improve the effectiveness of the supply chain of essential medicines and medical supplies, NMS embarked on the process of digitizing the entire supply chain from suppliers to the end user. NMS understood that for the right medication to get to the end user, the quantification process must be done well. NMS started by availing qualified pharmacists to work with the health facilities to ensure that the quantification process was not only within budget but also a true representation of what the facilities needed based on the disease burden of the area and the population density.

Rotary Club of NMS

In 2024, National Medical Stores (NMS) proudly launched its own Rotary Club of NMS Uganda — the first-ever Rotary corporate chapter embedded within a Ugandan public health institution. This initiative reflects NMS’s commitment to community service, health outreach, and staff-led philanthropy.
