National Medical Stores (NMS) was set up by the National Medical Stores Act 1993 (Cap 207) as an autonomous body responsible for procurement, storage and distribution of essential medicines and health supplies (EMHS) to all Public Health Facilities in the Country.
The procurement department ensures that medicines and health supplies are acquired in a transparent, efficient and cost-effective manner while meeting the highest standards of quality. Its role becomes vital in planning, sourcing and coordinating the procurement process so that health facilities across Uganda can continuously receive the medicines they need to save lives.
